HOW
TO PICK YOUR DIVORCE ATTORNEY.
Must Have Qualifications:
-20 years experience. (Why would you hand your
case over to inexperience?)
-Reputable law school in Texas. (Not all law schools
teach Texas law.)
-Knowledge of judges in your county. (Can make
a huge difference!)
-Practices only family law. (No attorney can be
a jack of all trades.)
Plain talk:
-Can you communicate well together?
-Do the attorney’s answers make sense?
-Did the attorney answer your question?
-Do you feel information has been imparted to
you?
Integrity:
-The attorney should feel genuine to you or don’t
use him.
Time:
-Does the attorney have time for your case?
HOW
TO USE YOUR ATTORNEY WISELY:
You will save money using your
attorney when:
- Your
are organized (don’t take him an unorganized
box of stuff and ask him to do what you could
have done easier and faster.)
-
You organize your questions. Each random question
may be billed as it takes up real time.
- Ask
your attorney what he needs and give it to your
attorney to allow him time to prepare for the
hearing.
-
Define for your attorney realistic goals of
your divorce or modification.
Communications:
-
E-mail is time saving for most attorneys and
time flexible.
- Letters
to the attorney help the efficiency or organization.
- If
you are frustrated in not being able to reach
the attorney, then make an appointment to talk.
- Be
honest with your attorney even if it hurts you.
Here
is what NOT to do:
- Call
every time you think of a question.
-
Send boxes of information without organization.
- If
you are frustrated about something in your divorce
remain silent.
- Give
your attorney what he needs at the last minute.
